ALGUNS DADOS SOBRE A NOVA SALA DOS LEQUES:
A coleção de 210 leques da Casa-Museu é uma das maiores coleções de leques em Portugal, a maior em exposição;
Leques representativos de diferentes períodos históricos, de diferentes contextos de origem (europeu e asiático), assim como de variadas tipologias estéticas e formais;
A nova sala traz à luz 72 leques nunca antes expostos ao público;
A seleção tem por objetivo narrar a evolução histórica do leque europeu do século XVIII ao século XX, apresentando os leques cronologicamente;
A exposição tem um caráter didático apresentando ao público os vários elementos constituintes da anatomia do leque assim como as diferentes tipologias existentes e também a curiosa ‘Linguagem do Leque’;
A moderna museografia da sala compreende, para além de vitrinas, quatro armários de gavetas com luz própria, oferecendo ao público uma reserva visitável;
Da coleção destacamos um leque que foi pertença da Rainha D. Amélia, outro da Imperatriz Eugénia do Montijo e ainda peças assinadas por artistas como Pirovani, Millet, Hédouin, Lauronce e Van Garden, entre outros.

‘WEAPONS OF SEDUCTION – 18th to 20th Century European Fans’
The Fan Collection of the Medeiros e Almeida House-Museum
The collection of fans of the Medeiros e Almeida Museum House was assembled by its founder during the last two and a half decades of his life. Between 1967 and 1980, António Medeiros e Almeida acquired these pieces in various national and international auction houses and antique shops, as well as from private owners, creating an eclectic selection representative of a variety of historical periods, European and Asian origins, and formal and aesthetic typologies.
SOME FACTS ABOUT THE NEW FAN ROOM:
The collection of 210 fans of the House- Museum is one of the largest collections of fans in Portugal, and the largest one on display. Only three have been on permanent display until now
The exhibition features 72 never before exhibited fans, representative of different historical periods and contexts of origin (European and Asian) as well of varied aesthetic and formal typologies, selected with the purpose of narrating the historical evolution of the European Fan from the eighteenth to the twentieth century.
The fans are presented chronologically, in six window cases and four cabinets with drawers, offering the public a visitable storage. A few of the collection highlights are: a fan owned by Queen D. Amélia; one of the many fans owned by Empress Eugénie of Montijo; and also a variety of fans signed by artists like Pirovani, Millet, Hédouin, Lauronce and Van Garden, amongst other pieces.
