At table with the European Aristocracy
“The art of being”
Earl of S. Martinho Duke of Richmond
Qianlong, 1725-1775 Paul Storr, 1807-1820
The exhibition that will inaugurate on the 4th November, in the Temporary Exhibition Gallery of the Fundação Medeiros e Almeida in Lisbon, has the purpose of showing two different expressions of the splendour and glamour of the “art of the table”.
In display, the silver dinner set of the Duke of Richmond, made in 1807 by the famous English silversmith Paul Storr and the China porcelain dinner set of the Earl of S. Martinho, from the Qianlong period, made between 1725 and 1775, decorated with enamels from the “Famille Rose”.
Before our eyes, two tables of the high nobility set with the glow and apparatus of old times, when the aristocrats showed their power through impressive scenarios.
It is on your own to decide on what remains nowadays of the “art of the table”.
